CURRENT CAUSES

Our ongoing causes enable our Wild Is Life and ZEN supporters to donate directly towards specific parts of our mission. At Wild Is Life and ZEN, we are committed not only to ensuring that we rescue and rehabilitate wild animals that come into our care but also the greater conservation picture. Our work stretches across a number of different fields including animal welfare, community development, anti-poaching, and habitat restoration.

Baby elephant drinking a bottle of milk with its trunk

The cost of milk formula for 1 elephant calf per month is $900. Milk formula is one of the biggest challenges that we have at the nursery and it comes at vast expense. Elephant orphans have challenges adapting to a substitute formula when they come into our care and there are very few substitute formulas that work for young elephants. Over the years, we have managed to find a particular formula that our babies like and every dollar that goes towards milk powder is one step towards keeping these little calves alive.

Loading a small aircraft with supplies

The cost of to airlift an injured or orphaned elephant to the sanctuary is $5,000. Life at the nursery in unpredictable and at any moment we can be called in to do a rescue. Rescuing orphans can be a logistical nightmare but over the years and through experience we have developed protocols that enable to get these babies back to the sanctuary in an efficient and safe way. Using a plane, an experienced team, and our veterinarian we have rescued babies from some of the most remote parts of the country. As a donor to our elephant rescues, you stand a chance of being able to name of the babies that come into our care.

new shoots from planting trees for life

As part of Wild is Life and ZEN's commitment to reforestation, we partnered with an organization called TreeEco which grows, plants, and monitors indigenous tree species in Zimbabwe. To date, we have planted 300,000 tree's and continue to support TreeEco with their goal of planting 1 million tree's by 2021. A $10 donation plants a tree in Zimbabwe!

Small herd of elephants in the bush

The cost of a radio collar to monitor elephants is $3,000. As our young elephants begin to make their way back into the wild, being able to monitor their activity is of utmost importance to us. Every piece of data that we can gather contributes towards furthering our success inn re-wilding orphaned elephants. Monitoring wild elephants within Panda Masuie is also a critical part of the landscape conservation work that we do. Every single elephant collar that we have is a small step towards ensuring that these beautiful animals are further understood.

Line up of school children holding tree saplings

An $80 donation can send a child to school for an entire year. Panda Masuie shares a boarder with Woodlands Community and a critical part of our work is making sure that we do everything we can to ensure that the community is protected and supported. We have begun working closely with the community on various projects and one of the most important things that they have brought to the table is education. Every child deserves an education and you can sponsor a scholarship for a child to go to school for an entire year for just $80
